CHAIRMAN, MEMBERS NABTEB 9TH GOVERNING BOARD VISIT NABTEB NATIONAL HEADQUARTERS

The Chairman, Professor Leonard Karshima Shilgba and Members of the 9th Governing Board of the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) which was inaugurated on Thursday, 22nd March, 2018 recently embarked on their maiden visit to the national headquarters of NABTEB in Benin City, the Edo State capital.

The 3-day visit commenced on Wednesday, 25th April, 2018 with the arrival of the chairman, the distinguished Professor Shilgba and two presidential nominees, Dr. Mrs. Rachael Bassey Akpabio and Hon. Charles Osahon Imoru, all of whom were heartily welcomed by the NABTEB Registrar/Chief Executive, Professor Ifeoma M. Isiugo-Abanihe, the Management and Staff.

The chairman and members of the Governing Board soon went into a meeting with the Registrar/Chief Executive and Management Staff during which they sounded out the Management on their current activities and their vision for a more productive and result-oriented NABTEB.

The next day, Thursday, 26th April, 2018, the Chairman and other eminent members of the Governing Board met with the Registrar/Chief Executive, the Management and Staff at a Special General Staff Assembly, where the visiting Board members addressed and had an interactive session with the staff for the first time since their inauguration.

The Governing Board Chairman, Professor Leonard Shilgba charged the staff to work on boosting enrolment figures for the different diets or series of the Board’s examinations and development of strategies that would lead to increase in revenue, just as he assured of reward for diligent staff that would give credible information that would engender growth and expansion of the Board.

“If information provided by any staff to the organisation’s email leads to a successful output in accordance with NABTEB mandate, such staff will be considered for NABTEB Governing Board reward. Our values go beyond money; rather, it attracts money because it will give satisfaction beyond giving money”, he said.

The Professor of Mathematics told the General Staff Assembly, “Improvement in staff welfare must march commitment. If you work hard and produce result, you will be rewarded. We need money because we do not have money to do everything at once. If we jerk up the figure of candidates registered every year for examination, there will be enough funds to do all these things needed. Everybody has to be involved”.

The Board Chairman further tasked them saying, “Do not fold your hands and say whatever happens to NABTEB is not your responsibility. Forget what comes from Federal Government; look at what comes through the efforts of staff and management. Everybody should endeavour to be a marketer to improve the revenue generation for the organisation”.

Professor Shilgba advised the members of staff thus: “Never sabotage management, never do anything to destroy the work of a management staff. If you do that, you are destroying yourself. Never go behind to destroy the good work of others. Sow good seed and you will reap what you sow”.

The Chairman and members of the Governing Board rounded off their working visit on Friday, 27th April, 2018 with a tour of some NABTEB examination centres which included Benin Technical College and Amena Academy, all in Benin City.
